About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Principal Environmental Specialist, the Environmental Specialist provides advice and support to ASC’s departments and operations in order to facilitate continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS). This role supports environmental governance and assurance programs across the company, including ongoing legal compliance, risk management processes, inspections, auditing, incident management, stakeholder engagement, training and promotion of environmental awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the ongoing proactive management of ASC’s environmental risks and associated obligations with respect to the company’s operations.
  • Strengthen environmental legal compliance and assist with relevant Work, Health Safety and Environment (WHSE) activities across ASC’s business interests.
  • Provide guidance and expert advice to all necessary stakeholders (internal & external) with respect to relevant environmental matters.
  • Provide guidance and oversee environmental planning, assessments, and impact mitigation services for all ASC operational sites.
  • Assist with maintaining the company policies and processes held within the Corporate Management System (CMS) in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Management System standard AS/NZS: ISO 14001.
  • Support the implementation of the Environmental Strategy and Action Plans for all ASC’s operational sites, contributing towards the goals and plans of the Corporation.
  • Provide for all necessary internal and external reporting on matters pertaining to environmental management.
  • Support the management of the company hazardous materials registers and associated processes.

About you

  • Hold tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related discipline (essential).
  • At a minimum, have 5 years professional environmental management experience with a strong knowledge of environmental regulations as they relate to maritime and heavy industry.
  • Bring demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and maintaining environmental management systems, as per the requirements of the Standard ISO AS/NZS: 14001.
  • Have a detailed understanding of relevant environmental legislation, regulations, standards and codes of practice.
  • Proven communication, negotiation and influencing skills across all levels, maintaining strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to research, interpret, rationalise and implement business solutions to environmental issues.
  • Qualification in environmental auditing is desirable (e.g. ISO 14001 Lead Auditor).

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
