Designer duties:
Responsibilities include researching, designing and maintaining designs used in the training environment. You will work in a small team of software developers with the responsibility of steering design and branding, creating mock-ups and producing graphic designs across a range of software. You will contribute to requirements gathering during project scoping, as well as ongoing design validation with stakeholders. You will work with stakeholders across a matrix organisation including Instructors, Training Developers, IT Support and Navy staff.
You will maintain and evolve the Training Technology branding inside Training Authority – Submarines (TA-SM), ensuring consistency and quality.
You will develop and employ skills across a broad range of software, multimedia, training and IT security disciplines, including storyboarding, graphic design, video, audio, 3D modelling, gamification, and any other relevant skills you can contribute. The primary design software is the Adobe Creative suite with the Affinity suite also available. Designs will be deployed onto Web and through the Unity game engine – you will be responsible for preparing artwork for digital publication.
Graphic Designers are expected to develop a working understanding of learning concepts and submarine subjects to help interpret training requirements and how to integrate these into graphic designs.
Essential skills and knowledge:
Communication skills with team members, stakeholders
Proven graphic design experience, via portfolio
Proficient with Adobe Creative suite
Desirable:
Knowledge of User Experience principles
Experience with the Unity game engine, 3D modelling and animation
Other relevant certifications in software, technologies, design, training and assessment
Knowledge and understanding of adult learning principles
Learning needs analysis and adult education principles
**This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a Baseline/NV1/NV2 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
