About the Opportunity

We are seeking Mechanical Engineers across multiple seniority levels to support the maintenance and sustainment of Auxiliary Systems on the Collins Class submarines. Based in Osborne, SA, you will work on complex mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics and structural components, with exposure to equipment such as valves, pipework, pressure vessels, pumps, heat exchangers and actuators.

Reporting to an Engineering Team Lead, you will contribute to sustaining critical defence capability by applying your technical expertise across maintenance, troubleshooting and design‑related activities. This is a full‑time, permanent opportunity within a highly skilled and collaborative engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret design baselines to develop engineering instructions supporting maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with Operations teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Prepare engineering documentation including specifications, sketches, reports and test procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments to evaluate safety and operational impacts of engineering solutions.
  • Perform root cause analysis to identify and resolve system issues.
  • Review and manage component obsolescence through interpretation of applicable standards.
  • Update and maintain engineering and maintenance instructions.
  • Provide technical input across the mechanical design and maintenance lifecycle.
  • Perform engineering calculations to assess and validate technical solutions.

About you 

  • Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Diploma‑qualified candidates with relevant experience will be considered for Technical Officer roles.
  • Experience working with mechanical systems and equipment in a maintenance or engineering environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability with sound technical knowledge.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics or structural/mechanical equipment is highly regarded.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
