About the Opportunity

The Structural Engineers report to the Structural Team Lead and is integral to the Life of Type Extension (LOTE) Structural team. This Mechanical Stress Analysis Engineer position is responsible for offering crucial engineering support to ensure the safe and efficient operation and availability of the Collins Class Submarine fleet. These submarines are pivotal to Australia's frontline naval capabilities.

This is a full-time opportunity based at our Osborne site in SA.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for design activities as part of the LOTE of Collins Class submarines.
  • Development and review of structural documentation such as structural calculations, work instructions, requirements specifications, test procedures and engineering reports.
  • Produce safety and technical risk assessments.
  • Develop and/or grow the structural knowledge in key areas of submarine design such as pressure hull, shock and vibration, pressure vessels, piping, fasteners, stress analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), fatigue and fracture, support equipment and general structural engineering

About you

  • Bachelor of Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical/Aerospace, Naval Architect or similar (Degree must satisfy membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia at MIEAust level).
  • Proven experience with Pressure Equipment including design, in-service inspections and regulatory requirements is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability conducting structural analysis within a heavy engineering, shipbuilding or defence industry.
  • Experience in Finite Element Analysis is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience with working through integration issues with stakeholders to find acceptable solutions.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain interpersonal and professional relationships with stakeholders, as well as the drive to motivate yourself and others, and embrace personal development. 

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
