About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Program Quality Manager for multiclass sustainment (MCS), the Non Destructive Testing (NDT) Manager is accountable to provide a centralised NDT function across SA & WA for the MCS programs to enable ASC to provide defect-free products and services to the customer and assuring the company’s compliance and ongoing certification pertaining to Quality legislation, including ISO9001, ISO17025 and NATA/ARPANSA licensing through a comprehensive Quality Management System and suite of processes.

You will contribute to providing world-class quality services and support to the MCS programs, ASC and the broader Submarine Enterprise. The position will manage all elements of NDT through the MCS programs and related external stakeholders in support of MCS programs and business legislation and licensing. You will also contribute through aligning activities with ASC’s Strategy and assisting ASC to meet any relevant contractual deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Provide management and leadership to their department by ensuring that high quality, safe and efficient systems of work are in place to support a safely on time, right first time philosophy
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements in support of NATA/ ARPANSA licencing, WHS and ASC’s Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity policy.
  • Management of staff across SA & WA
  • Maintain a strategic perspective of the entire business and will take in to account a wide range of longer-term issues, opportunities and risks
  • Develop and execute a NDT strategy/plan for Multi Class Sustainment (MCS), ensuring its alignment to overall business strategy
  • Set clear, and actionable goals to ensure delivery of Quality and Assurance objectives throughout MCS
  • Deliver safe, accurate and efficient NDT products and services to ASC MCS and the wider Submarine Enterprise
  • Assist the broader MCS team to improve processes and technology to gain efficiencies
  • Ensuring a high standard of reporting, compliance, government policies and frameworks are adhered to

About you 

  • Tertiary qualifications in an engineering and/or business discipline
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in operational leadership roles within Defence and/or heavy industry
  • Proven experience and competency with quality/certification systems in a dockyard or heavy engineering environment
  • Demonstrated experience and competency in the management and leadership of a cross-functional team across multiple projects and locations
  • Have high level conceptual, analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to interpret (both ASC and customer) social, political and operating environment
  • Problem solving at the highest level of complexity and importance that materially affect the value, viability and profitability of ASC
  • Knowledge of submarine systems, equipment and their interrelationships – Desirable
  • Experience with submarine maintenance requirements and quality regulations including ISO17025 – Desirable
  • Commercial awareness and financial literacy
  • Proven ability to influence and lead change and business improvement
  • Ability to set priorities and achieve deadlines within a fast-paced environment

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
