An exciting career awaits you at ASC, Australia's submarine company - the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled trades individuals to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.
International placements are available commencing in April 2026, for a duration of approximately 27 months. Following placement, you will return to a permanent role located on Garden Island in WA, Australia.
Responsibilities
In the role of NDT Test Examiner, you will:
Provide technical leadership, oversight, and maintain certification for Level I and II inspectors
Create and maintain NDT and welding qualification procedures and training programs
Inspect materials for defects and interpret data from various testing methods
Verify proper calibration and safety checks of all testing equipment
Record results in digital platforms and prepare detailed inspection reports
Determine compliance with standards and approve or reject work as needed
Enforce safety regulations, especially in nuclear environments
Eligibility Criteria
The successful applicant must possess:
Current NDT Level II certification (or close to achieving)
Minimum 4 years’ experience in NDT, welding inspection, or QA environments
Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret codes and standards
Excellent communication and leadership qualities
Ability to follow established processes and adhere to strict compliance requirements
Commitment to safety and quality in complex environments
Australian Citizenship
An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance
Additional Details
During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.
At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines.
