Placements are available in November 2026 and will be approximately 25 months in duration.
Responsibilities
As a Quality Inspector - Structural, you will:
Conduct physical inspections of ship hulls, decks, bulkheads, and foundation structures for corrosion, fatigue, deformation, and damage.
Perform and verify in-process and post-weld examinations on critical structural joints to ensure compliance with strict military and nuclear standards.
Create precise deficiency logs, test reports, and non-conformance records when components fail to meet prescribed specifications.
Apply a wide variety of technical references, inspection standards, specifications, blueprints, schematics, diagrams and similar references.
Eligibility Criteria
The successful applicant must possess:
Certificate III in Fabrication or a similar structural trade
Journeyman level knowledge of a structural trade involved in the maintenance, repair, overhaul, and modification of Naval Submarines
Ability to work in confined spaces (such as ballast tanks), work at heights, and navigate ladders and steep stairs aboard submarines
Australian Citizenship
An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance
Additional Details
During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.
At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines at HMAS Stirling.
Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.
Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
