About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Procurement Lead to support the Nuclear-powered Submarine (SSN) sustainment capability, based in Henderson, WA. The purpose of this full-time position role is to manage strategic procurement activities across ASC; you will develop, deliver or support business-critical category strategies and sourcing activities through proactive engagement with key stakeholders and the external market to ensure value for money outcomes.

The Procurement Lead will advance engagement with strategic suppliers and oversee contracting and procurement activities at all levels. This includes defining strategic sourcing strategies, planning schedules, coordinating procurement efforts, and managing subcontractor risk. This role requires a ‘greenfield’ mindset and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic sourcing and category management strategies to support SSN project objectives.
  • Lead procurement activities from project conception, including planning, supplier engagement, and contract execution.
  • Manage complex negotiations and ensure procurement outcomes deliver value for money.
  • Engage with international suppliers and navigate compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including legal, finance, and executive teams to ensure procurement documentation is accurate and aligned.
  • Identify gaps in information and proactively seek clarity to support informed decision-making
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and manage associated risks.
  • Support continuous improvement and contribute to procurement capability development across the team.

About You

The right candidate will be a proactive and commercially minded procurement professional with a strong ability to operate in dynamic and complex environments. You should possess:

  • A tertiary qualification in commerce, law, supply chain or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in procurement or supply chain roles within defence, manufacturing, resources or high-end maintenance sectors.
  • Deep expertise in strategic sourcing, category management and contracting.
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills, with a proven track record of delivering cost savings and business value.
  • Experience working with international suppliers and managing compliance in multinational contexts.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong written communication skills and commercial acumen.
  • Eligibility for membership with the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Australia (CIPSA).
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to mentor and share knowledge.
  • Eligible for an Australian Defence Security Clearance (NV1 or higher preferred).

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
