To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled trades individuals to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.

Placements are available in February 2027 and will be approximately 22 months in duration. 

 

Responsibilities  

As a Nuclear Electrical Engineer you will: 

  • Provide subject matter expertise in NSRP electrical systems and components, including maintenance, operational, and material support requirements 

  • Prepare, review, approve, and audit written technical direction for use by operations department craftsmen and Ship’s Force on board a nuclear-powered submarine and in production shops or in the Controlled Industrial Facility (CIF) 

  • Provide direct engineering consultation to shop mechanics and shipyard mechanics to resolve operational anomalies and system malfunctions. 

  • Review blueprints and schematics, recommend design modifications to improve reliability, and author technical evaluations 

  • Enforce the highest standards of quality assurance and radiological compliance, ensuring all maintenance adheres strictly to Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program requirements 

 

Eligibility Criteria  

The successful applicant must possess:  

  • Bachelor of Engineering (any discipline) 

  • Prior experience as a Nuclear or Electrical Engineer 

  • Australian Citizenship  

  • An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance 

 

Additional Details 

During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.  

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines at HMAS Stirling.  

Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.  

 

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
