Plastic and Rubber Fabricator - International Placements

An exciting career awaits you at ASC, Australia's submarine company - the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled trades individuals to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.

Placements are available February 2027 and will be approx. 27 months in duration.

 

Responsibilities 

As a Fabricator you will:

  • Design and fabricate templates, patterns, wood moulds and form blocks of various shapes and sizes used in the forming of plexiglass, fiberglass and various plastic and rubber item.
  • Repair hard bottom rubber inflatable boats (RIB).
  • Layout, template, manufacture and install various deck and wall coverings such as rubber matting, lonmat, ceramic floor tiles, stratica, terrazzo, vinyl tiles, formica laminates, fiberglass and ensolite insulation.
  • From plans and technical documents, lays out and manufactures, repair various wooden articles such cabinets desks. Tables and chairs of fine quality and finish.
  • Shaping, forming, and casting to plan and manufacture various plastic and rubber items.
  • Interpret and checks plans, blueprints, and sketches.
  • Set-up and adjust basic machinery such as band saw, table saw, drill press, shaper, lathe, routers, mortise/tenon machine, thickness planers and jointers, and other equipment.

 

Eligibility Criteria 

The successful applicant must possess: 

  • Minimum Cert III Trade Qualification 
  • 1-5 years’ experience working in a Trade
  • Comfortable with working in restricted areas.
  • Proven ability to be flexible and an eagerness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Australian Citizenship
  • An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance.

 

Additional Details

During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures. 

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines. Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying. 

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
