About the Opportunity

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Combat Systems Engineer to join our Updates and Upgrades team in WA. In this leadership role, you will lead a small team of engineering professionals responsible for delivering engineering solutions that support Combat System upgrades and sustainment activities across the Collins Class submarine fleet.

You will work across a diverse range of activities including operational fault finding, maintenance engineering, design engineering and upgrade implementation. Working closely with planning, production and broader submarine enterprise stakeholders, you will help minimise downtime, resolve complex technical issues and ensure successful engineering outcomes. This role offers a high degree of autonomy and the opportunity to engage directly with customers, senior leaders and external stakeholders supporting nationally significant defence capability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and manage a team of Combat Systems Engineering professionals.
  • Deliver engineering solutions to support Combat System upgrades and sustainment activities across the Collins Class fleet.
  • Provide engineering support across operational defect resolution, maintenance engineering and design engineering activities.
  • Set priorities and coordinate engineering resources across submarine docking programs.
  • Collaborate with planning, production and submarine enterprise partners to identify and resolve engineering issues.
  • Prepare, review and approve engineering documentation including specifications, drawings, analyses, test procedures and reports.
  • Attain and exercise engineering authority for Collins Class Combat Sub-systems
  • Provide technical advice and recommendations to senior management, customers and key stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of engineering processes and toolsets

About you 

  • Degree qualified in Electrical, Electronics, Systems, Software, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience supporting complex combat systems, mission systems, communications systems or integrated platform systems within a defence, maritime or other highly regulated environment.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor and develop engineering teams.
  • Strong engineering problem-solving skills with experience investigating and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing engineering documentation and technical deliverables.
  • Able to balance competing priorities and deliver outcomes in an operational environment.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple organisations.
  • Comfortable working independently and exercising sound engineering judgement.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on safe, practical and efficient engineering outcomes.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
