To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled Test Engineer to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.

Placements are available in February 2027 and will be approximately 27 months in duration.

Responsibilities 

In the role of a Work Controls Test Engineer, your responsibilities are:

  • Plan, develop, and coordinate end-to-end testing and work control programs for overhaul, repair, or modernization processes.
  • Formulate and manage shipboard work and test schedules, ensuring alignment with safety and operational requirements.
  • Monitor daily testing progress of shipboard work and testing, track performance against plan, and advise leadership on risks, issues, and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and performance input while interpreting and applying shipyard and NAVSEA technical standards.
  • Design and implement isolations for all non-nuclear shipboard work, ensuring safety of personnel and equipment.
  • Direct imposed pressure and operational shipboard testing for Hull, Mechanical & Electrical systems.

 

Eligibility Criteria 

The successful applicant must possess: 

  • Australian Citizenship 
  • Bachelor of Engineering OR Suitable experience from a test and activation environment PLUS Cert III Trade qualification in Engineering 
  • 2-5 years of post-graduate experience (desirable)
  • Experience within the defence industry or on submarines (desirable)
  • An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance 

 

Additional Details

During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures. 

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines at HMAS Stirling. Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying. 

Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
