ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

As an Export Controls Specialist, you'll help ASC navigate complex export control and technology transfer requirements across some of Australia's most important defence programs. Working closely with engineering, supply chain, legal, HR and project teams, you'll provide practical advice that enables business outcomes while ensuring compliance with Australian and international regulations.

This is an opportunity to build your career in a highly specialised field supporting nationally significant submarine programs.

  • Help assess products, software, technical information and services against export control regulations.
  • Support export and import licence applications and maintain compliance records.
  • Identify regulatory risks and work with stakeholders to find practical solutions.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures and guidance materials.
  • Support projects, procurement activities, and international collaborations.
  • Assist with audits, investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, regulators and industry partners.
  • Deliver training and promote awareness of export control obligations across the business.

About you

You may come from a background in:

  • Export controls or trade compliance

You will also bring:

  • The ability to understand legislation, policies or regulatory requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
  • The confidence to provide advice and influence decision-making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and sound judgement.
  • Experience with ITAR, EAR, DSGL or technology transfer controls (highly regarded)

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.

To check your eligibility please visit the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency website.
