An exciting career awaits you at ASC, Australia's submarine company - the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled trades individuals to undertake short-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.

Placements are available in October 2026 and will be approximately 6 months in duration. 

Please note: this deployment will need to be undertaken on a solo basis. 

 

Responsibilities  

As a Quality Assurance Specialist you will: 

  • Apply a wide variety of technical references, inspection standards, specifications, blueprints, schematics, diagrams and similar references 

  • Perform a detailed review of Technical Work Documents, Quality Assurance Forms, and Re Entry Control documents to ensure that all SUBSAFE requirements have been met 

  • Review completed shop and shipboard testing documents to verify component equipment and system strength and tightness testing and satisfactorily operational testing 

  • Demonstrate your ability to interpret results from special inspection and measuring devices such as fixed gages, micrometres, callipers, protractors, precision gage blocks, indicators, hardness testers, and surface finish analysers (not inclusive) used to perform inspections 

 

Eligibility Criteria  

The successful applicant must possess:  

  • Qualification aligned to Quality Assurance discipline (desirable) 

  • Senior level knowledge of Quality Assurance documents and procedures involved in the maintenance, repair, overhaul, and modification of Naval Submarines 

  • Australian Citizenship   

  • An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance   

 

Additional Details 

During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.  

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines at HMAS Stirling.  

Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.  

Due to the shorter duration of the overseas training, family relocation support is not available, and deployment will need to be undertaken on a solo basis.  

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
