About the Opportunity

We are seeking experienced Electrical Technical Officers (Designers/Drafters) in support of the Collins Class Submarine (CCSM) key programs. The roles will see the successful applicants develop technical solutions that must be safe, practical, and fit for implementation. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, the roles will contribute to engineering solutions and outcomes to support concept, system, detailed design and implementation activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver electrical design tasks to agreed program commitments.
  • Ensure engineering outputs comply with ASC processes and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated engineering solutions.
  • Produce high-quality drawing outputs such as cable block diagrams, circuit diagrams, termination diagrams, cable installation schedules and switchboard arrangements.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, equipment lists and other supporting engineering artefacts.
  • Assist in planning and estimating, progress reporting, escalating blockages and ensuring alignment with project priorities and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with organisational engineering, quality, safety and security requirements
  • Seek better ways of working, that drive improvement in relation to program cost, schedule and quality.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to small teams where required (For Senior roles)

About you 

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is desirable (Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering is essential for a Senior role)
  • Electrical Trade experience/qualification is highly regarded. 
  • Experience as an Electrical Designer / Drafter supporting the delivery of electrical engineering drawings and documentation
  • Strong ability to interpret electrical specifications, drawings and requirements
  • Understanding of design and integration of power conversion and distribution systems, switchboards & control panels, cable routing, earthing and instrumentation.
  • Experience in AutoCAD to produce 2D drawings is favourable (training provided)
  • Involvement in preparing technical reports and communicating technical information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a small team of designers (required for Senior Level)
  • Understanding of project management principles, including scope, schedule, cost, risk and opportunity management.
  • Knowledge of engineering lifecycles, including requirements, verification, integrated logistics support and configuration management.
  • You are a proactive and solutions-focused engineering professional who can work independently, manage competing priorities and build strong working relationships. You have excellent communication skills, strong technical judgement and a commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
