ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives.

We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

ASC is seeking an Australian Industry Capability (AIC) Officer to support the delivery of the SSN AUKUS Build Program. This role represents a rare opportunity to be involved at the inception of the largest defence program in Australian history, and to support essential sovereign capability development for Australia.

The AIC Officer will ensure that ASC meets its obligations to maximise Australian industry participation in its submarine programs and supports sovereign capability for the SSN AUKUS submarines.

Responsibilities include contributing to developing and updating the SSN AUKUS AIC Plan, educating subcontractors and suppliers on their AIC obligations, reporting AIC and Australian Contract Expenditure (ACE) to the Commonwealth, and supporting the wider SSN AUKUS Supply Chain functions.

As the Program matures, the role will have a greater focus on strategic supplier management and engagement.

This role enhances Australia's submarine supply chain in line with sovereign capability priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and update to the SSN AUKUS Shipbuilder AIC Plan and other supply chain contractual deliverables, in alignment with government policies and ASC business requirements.
  • Review and assess AIC Subcontractor Plans as part of evaluations and ongoing contract management.
  • Develop stakeholder relationships with finance and program management functions to collect key inputs to provide monthly reporting of Australian Contract Expenditure.
  • Contribute advice to AIC and other sovereign supply chain development opportunities, including developing industrial intelligence.
  • Collaborate with program leads to identify and develop AIC requirements for specific programs.
  • Communicate program AIC requirements to suppliers and evaluate AIC proposals.
  • Engage with SMEs and indigenous-owned businesses to maximize participation in ASC’s supply chain.

About you

  • A genuine interest in contributing to the largest national endeavour in Australian Defence history.
  • Tertiary qualification in commerce, contract management, supply chain, or other related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant business experience.
  • Knowledge of the Australian defence industry, including government policies and initiatives is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical, financial, commercial, and communication skills with experience in contract reporting, financial data analysis, and governance.
  • Ability to balance conflicting priorities to deliver against customer requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain key stakeholder relationships in an evolving policy setting, working within complex stakeholder dynamics, including government, primes and SMEs.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.

To check your eligibility please visit the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency website.
