An exciting career awaits you at ASC. We built Australia’s Collins Class submarines, sustain the Collins Class fleet, and have been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in Australia.  

To deliver on this new work, ASC are seeking an NDT Technician to undertake long-term, world-leading training, primarily based in Pearl Harbor, Hawai’i. 

Placements are available for August 2026 and will be approximately 27-months in duration.

 

Responsibilities 

As an NDT Technician, you will:

  • Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) using ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant and visual inspection techniques
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and procedures to determine testing requirements and ensure accuracy
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment, carry out inspections, and record, analyse, and report findings, including identifying any defects
  • Maintain compliant documentation and ensure all work meets relevant standards (e.g., ISO 9712, ASME, API, NAVSEA)
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, quality teams, and site supervisors, supporting safe and effective project delivery
  • Adhere to WHS requirements and engage in ongoing professional development to maintain certification currency

 

Eligibility Criteria 

The successful applicant must possess: 

  • ISO 9712 Level 2 certifications in MT, PT and VT, and Level 1 in UT
  • Experience in defence or naval shipbuilding environments, preferably with submarines (desirable) 
  • 1-5 years' experience (desirable)
  • Australian Citizenship 
  • An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance 

 

Additional Details

During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures. 

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines at HMAS Stirling.

Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying. 

Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
