We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity
We’re seeking a highly capable Manager, Nuclear Electrical Engineering to lead and develop ASC’s nuclear electrical engineering capability within the SSN Sustainment Program. Reporting to the Head of Nuclear Engineering, you’ll guide a team responsible for nuclear electrical systems, control systems, and maintenance engineering at SRF‑West. In this pivotal role, you’ll provide technical leadership, drive improvements in nuclear maintenance, and support safe, compliant delivery across critical submarine sustainment activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical guidance, mentoring, and review to engineers working on nuclear electrical systems and control systems.
  • Develop, assess, and improve nuclear maintenance processes, procedures, and Technical Work Documents (TWDs).
  • Deliver engineering expertise for nuclear maintenance, repair, and instrumentation and control (I&C) systems.
  • Support Project and Radiological Controls teams by interpreting requirements and resolving technical queries.
  • Build collaborative relationships with government, military leadership, Ship’s Force personnel, and internal assurance groups.
  • Lead strategy development and execution for Nuclear Electrical Engineering within SSN Sustainment, ensuring alignment with ASC’s wider organisational strategy.
  • Manage resources, risks, and priorities across nuclear electrical engineering initiatives to ensure best‑practice outcomes.
  • Lead and develop your team, setting clear expectations, driving performance, fostering professional growth, and building a positive, innovative culture.
  • Drive continuous improvement across nuclear engineering processes and tools.

About you

  • Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • Chartered Engineer (or ability to obtain).
  • Experienced working in environments involving hazardous conditions, including radiation exposure, hazardous materials, heat, confined spaces, and chemical agents.
  • 10+ years’ experience in naval or nuclear engineering, ideally including nuclear maintenance, radiological evaluation, control systems, and I&C equipment.
  • Skilled in analysing complex technical problems, developing advanced solutions, and applying nuclear safety requirements.
  • Strong leadership capability with experience guiding specialist technical teams in high‑risk, highly regulated environments.
