We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

We’re seeking a Project Engineering Manager to lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team delivering critical upgrades within the Collins Class Submarine sustainment program. Reporting to the Program Engineering Manager – Upgrades & Updates, you’ll be responsible for managing scope, schedule, cost, and risk across your assigned projects, while ensuring engineering activities align with ASC’s standards and governance frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage an engineering team to deliver multiple sustainment projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Forecast, monitor, and report on project performance, identifying and mitigating technical and delivery risks.
  • Ensure engineering activities are performed in accordance with ASC’s engineering and corporate policies and processes.
  • Deliver consistently high-quality technical outputs, including documentation and presentations.
  • Collaborate with the engineering leadership team to manage and prioritise resource needs across the program.
  • Support the development of engineering skills and capability within your team.
  • Contribute to cross-program collaboration, particularly with LOTE and other Upgrade & Update initiatives, to manage design overlaps and integration challenges.
  • Exercise technical and programmatic delegations where appropriate to drive delivery outcomes.

About You

  • You hold a tertiary qualification in engineering or bring equivalent experience in managing complex technical projects.
  • You have demonstrated experience across the engineering lifecycle and through-life support of complex systems.
  • You’ve successfully led multi-disciplinary teams and supported their development through structured growth plans.
  • You’re confident managing scope, schedule, cost, and risk across multiple concurrent projects.
  • You understand engineering governance, configuration management, and systems engineering principles.
  • You’re adaptable and able to reprioritise work in response to changing program needs.
  • Experience in submarine or defence-related engineering is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the Defence Seaworthiness Management System (DSWMS) is a bonus.
