ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

Join our Trade Planning team based in Henderson WA. Reporting to the Trade Planning Team Lead – Pipe/Hull, you’ll be responsible for developing detailed work orders for Fabrication tasks. These tasks support safe and efficient execution by trade personnel on board Collins Class Submarines and within workshop environments.

Your work will play a key role in ensuring the maintenance schedule is fully supported and approved. All planning activities must align with ASC and departmental processes, with a strong focus on safety, quality, efficiency, accuracy, and repeatability across ASC Corporate and RAN planning systems and databases.

Responsibilities

  • Review and determine correct maintenance standards and drawings to develop consistent work packs.
  • Generation of work orders and work scope in an efficient manner in line with business and work group priorities.
  • Ensure work can be carried out safely and reliably by relevant personnel.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to prioritise and revise work plans as needed.
  • Interpret complex engineering specifications, documentation, recommendations and work instructions to support planning activities.

About you

This role requires a proactive and detail-oriented professional with a strong background in Fabrication and/or engineering. Ideally, you bring at least 7 years post trade experience, but we value capability and attitude just as much as tenure. You have a solid understanding of efficient fabrication principles and know how to plan and coordinate work effectively.

You’re comfortable working independently but also know how to collaborate with others to get the job done. Your communication skills allow you to engage confidently across all levels of the business, and you’re someone who can influence, encourage, and support teams to deliver accurate and reliable outcomes.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to demonstrate:

  • Fabrication trade qualification or engineering technician background.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of boilermaking and fabrication practices, including weld procedure standards, NDT requirements, and repair methodologies for metal‑loss defects on structural and pressure‑rated piping systems within marine or heavy industry environments.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proactive problem-solver with the ability to plan strategically and think ahead.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical documentation.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with IFS ERP (Desirable, not essential).

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
