An exciting career awaits you at ASC, Australia's submarine company - the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled Work Health and Safety Advisors to undertake a long-term assignment in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.  

Placements will be approximately 18 - 24 months in duration.

 

Responsibilities 

As a Work Health and Safety (WHS) Advisor, you will contribute across a diverse range of safety initiatives, with responsibilities including but not limited to:

 

  • Partner with stakeholders to develop and review risk assessments, safe work procedures, and controls for high-risk activities
  • Provide expert WHSE advice aligned with legislation, company policies, and proactive safety practices
  • Support and drive the implementation of risk reduction and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Coach and mentor leaders in inspections, audits, and assurance activities to ensure compliance
  • Lead incident investigations and provide guidance on regulatory notification requirements
  • Build strong relationships across the business to embed safety strategies and support operational goals
  • Contribute to WHSE governance, change initiatives, and culture programs to enhance safety performance

 

Eligibility Criteria 

The successful applicant must possess: 

  • Tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 2–3 years’ experience in an advisory or systems-focused role
  • Strong understanding of WHS and environmental legislation, with the ability to apply relevant standards in a practical setting
  • Working knowledge of high-risk activities and associated controls
  • Understanding of environmental requirements and risk management practices
  • Experience or exposure to incident investigation methodologies (e.g. ICAM)
  • Previous exposure to OHSA legislation (US) (advantageous)
  • Australian Citizenship 
  • An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance  

 

Additional Details

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance safety activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines at HMAS Stirling.

Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying. 

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
