About the opportunity

This role is pivotal in establishing and managing the physical and operational environment required for submarine production demonstration activities for the SSN AUKUS program. The Building Manager will be responsible for ensuring that facilities are designed, constructed, and maintained to support early-stage production trials and prototyping. This includes overseeing infrastructure readiness, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

The Building Manager will play a key role in transitioning demonstration environments into prototyping-ready spaces, supporting the evolution of the SSN AUKUS program. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, adaptability to changing requirements, and the ability to manage complex logistics and timelines.

This role will play a key role in the establishment of the Australian Shipbuilder (joint venture between ASC and BAE), that will eventually build Australia’s SSN-AUKUS submarines.

Note: This role is established early in ASCs Nuclear pathway. Therefore, this role will change with the evolving needs of the business.

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure facilities are ready and validated for demonstration activities in a high security, high complexity Defence manufacturing environment
  • Ensure facilities are operational, aligned and compliant with safety regulations/ standards within an evolving production and prototyping environment
  • Adapt facilities and resources from demonstration phase to support prototype builds and integrate feedback from prototyping into facility improvements
  • Coordinate timely delivery of services and infrastructure upgrades to ensure facility layout supports efficient workflow and safety standards
  • Collaborate and liaise with contractors and service providers and provide regular updates to leadership, the customer and partners

 

About You

  • Trade background with Operations Management experience, or tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Construction Management, Facilities Management
  • Experience managing complex production or industrial or Defence related facilities
  • Demonstrated experience in the establishment of new production environments preferable
  • Proven experience managing, influencing and coordinating multi-discipline production, Engineering & trade teams and contractors 
  • Proven ability to develop, maintain and strengthen relationships with new and existing internal and external stakeholders, coupled with excellent communication skills
  • Experience with safety, compliance and regulatory frameworks in high-security environments

Please note: Availability for collaboration calls outside normal working hours (UK timezone) is required. Periodic domestic and international travel may also be required.

 

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
