About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager – Detailed Design, the Team Lead is responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of assigned Detailed Design work packages in support of the Collins Class Submarine (CCSM) - Life of Type Extension (LOTE) Program.

You will lead a team of Designers delivering critical submarine design outcomes, working closely with Design Managers, Project Managers, and cross-functional engineering stakeholders. You will be accountable for delivering scope safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with engineering standards, governance requirements, customer obligations, and project objectives.

This is a full-time opportunity based at our Osborne site in South Australia.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of assigned work packages from planning through to completion.
  • Manage scope, schedule, cost, risk, and resource requirements to achieve program outcomes.
  • Provide leadership and coordination to a team of Designers delivering design solutions.
  • Ensure designs comply with sound engineering principles, customer requirements, contractual obligations, safety standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Monitor progress and proactively manage risks, issues, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Collaborate with project, engineering, and cross-discipline teams to ensure successful integration and delivery outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering governance, configuration management, product safety, and relevant technical standards.
  • Drive innovation, continuous improvement, capability development, and design excellence within the team.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team culture focused on engagement and professional growth.

About You

You are an experienced Mechanical Designer / Drafter with a strong technical leadership background and a passion for developing high-performing, collaborative, engaged teams.

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Relevant engineering or technical qualifications supporting complex engineering delivery in a maritime, defence, military, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Extensive experience as a Designer / Drafter supporting the delivery of complex engineering solutions.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with a proven track record of successful team and project delivery.
  • Sound understanding of engineering governance, configuration management, risk management, and product safety principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems, provide sound engineering judgement, and manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • A commitment to safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and professional excellence.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement, learning, and capability development and innovation
  • A good understanding of project management fundamentals.

Desirable

  • Experience within submarine, naval, maritime, defence, or other highly regulated engineering environments.
  • Eligibility for professional accreditation such as Engineers Australia CPEng, CEngT, CEngA, or equivalent.
  • Leadership/Management qualifications

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to at least NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on obtaining and maintaining the required clearance.
