About the Opportunity

The Engineering and Project Management Capability Lead plays a crucial role in ensuring the right people with the right skills are developed and deployed to deliver on program work scopes. Acting as a deputy to the Head of Engineering and Project Management Capability, this role focuses on the execution and tactical operations of the team, contributing to the strategic development of ASC’s workforce capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and address Engineering and Project Management resource shortfalls across ASC Programs.
  • Collaborate with P&C Heads to develop and implement strategies for workforce capability building.
  • Align activities with ASC’s Strategy and assist in meeting contractual deliverables.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Engineering and Project Management Capability Department.
  • Set and achieve challenging performance targets for team members.
  • Maintain a strategic perspective of the business, considering long-term issues, opportunities, and risks.
  • Lead up to 10 direct reports across various areas, including Engineering Technical Discipline Leadership and Project Management Discipline Leadership.

 

Please note: Availability for collaboration calls outside normal working hours (UK timezone) is required. Periodic domestic and international travel may also be required on an ad hoc basis.

 

About you 

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering and/or project management, with post-graduate qualifications in a management discipline.
  • Eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia or AIPM, ideally with accreditation at EA EngExec and/or AIPM CPPD/CPPE level.
  • Experience in a leadership role in operations, engineering, project management, or capability leadership.
  • Proven ability to deliver on capability development programs aligned with business strategy.
  • Strong understanding of the shipbuilding/defence sector, including current trends, practices, technologies, and regulatory environment.
  • Experience in coaching and assessing competencies of job families.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize limited resources and make effective trade-off decisions.

 

 

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

 

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
