About the Opportunity

With a strong technical background, excellent communication and leadership skills, coupled with extensive knowledge of submarine Signatures and operations, the Signatures Manager will lead the Signatures team in maintaining and enhancing the Stealth Capabilities of the Collins Class Submarine across all ASC projects.

The Signatures Manager is accountable to the Head Whole of the Boat Performance & Integration for delivery of specialist Signatures engineering services to ASC projects in accordance with ASC corporate and engineering processes. This role will be primarily performed in office, with opportunities for flexible work arrangements subject to operational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of Signatures engineering services to ASC maintenance, update, upgrade, and Life of Type Extension (LOTE) programs.
  • Proactively identify, resolve, and (where required) escalate signatures issues and risks.
  • Plan, prioritise, resource, and report on Signatures engineering activities; managing associated programmatic risk to ensure successful delivery.
  • Direct management of the ASC signatures team, including supporting the growth of the team through recruiting, setting objectives, evaluating performance, developing growth plans, promoting, and performance managing staff.
  • Support the Signatures Technical Discipline Lead in maintaining and developing ASC’s Signatures engineering capability.
  • Prepare and deliver briefings to internal and external stakeholders in design reviews, program reviews, and leadership forums.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within the Australian and international signatures enterprise.

About You 

  • Bachelor (mandatory) or Post-graduate (preferred) level Engineering or Science qualifications in a technical discipline relevant Signatures. 
  • Professional Body recognition to Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience in Acoustic and Non-Acoustic Signature Management during design and sustainment phases.
  • Proven experience in providing technical guidance to multi-disciplinary teams to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances, directing the team’s work scope accordingly to respond to business priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and growing specialist engineering teams.
  • Proven proficiency in soliciting specialist advice from the Science and Technology community and synthesizing into engineering outcomes.
  • Evidence of outstanding internal and external stakeholder management. Familiarity with internal Navy and Naval Submarine Sustainment Group (NSSG) processes is desirable.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with proven proficiency in communicating complex issues clearly and simply to a diverse range of stakeholders across organisational, cultural, and language barriers.
  • Experience with subcontractor engagement including development of work scope and use of commercial mechanisms to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated application of project management techniques on an engineering project in a project engineering role or similar.
  • Formal qualifications in System Engineering or equivalent training (desirable).

Eligibility

This role requires Australian citizenship, a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a NV1 level. Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances.
