About the Opportunity

The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring efficient workflow, quality output, and adherence to safety standards. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise in CNC and manual machining, and hands-on experience with OKUMA CNC machines.

 

Responsibilities

Supervision & Leadership:

  • Lead and manage machine shop personnel, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and quality standards.

 

Production Management:

  • Plan, schedule, and monitor machining operations to meet production targets and deadlines.
  • Optimise workflow and resource allocation for maximum efficiency.

 

Technical Expertise:

  • Operate and troubleshoot CNC machines (including OKUMA) and manual machines as needed.
  • Review technical drawings and specifications to ensure accurate machining processes.

 

Quality Assurance:

  • Inspect finished products for accuracy and adherence to specifications.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and reduce waste.

 

Maintenance & Safety:

  • Oversee preventive maintenance of machines and tools.
  • Maintain a safe and organised work environment, enforcing safety protocols.

 

About you 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating a machine shop in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Proficient in CNC machining and manual machining operations.
  • Hands-on experience with OKUMA CNC machines.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Mechanical Trade Certificate in Machining or Fitting/Machining.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and machinery and the ability to stand for extended periods of time.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM software.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience in training and mentoring machinists.
  • Experience in marine and/or defence industry.

 

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
