To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled trades individuals to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.
Placements are available for deployment in January 2026 and will be between 12 - 18 months in duration.
Responsibilities
In the role of Painter/Cleaner, your responsibilities may be but not limited to:
Prepares metal or concrete surfaces for painting by removing grease, old paint, rust as necessary. Prepares pickling and degreasing solutions and treats metal objects or surfaces to be painted by immersion or washing.
Cleans and smooth surfaces with sandpapers, emery cloth, and wire brushes.
Prepares wood or plaster surfaces for painting by removing old paint, rust, filling cracks and holes, sanding and applying fillers and bade coats.
Removes old paint using hand tools, mechanically and chemically. Patches cracks and holes with patching plaster, putty, or plastic wood.
Washes and sands surface as necessary, and treats them with oil, turpentine, or other preparations, where required. Paints and rubs filler material into open-grained woods.
Mixes paints and other surfacing materials. Mixes base materials, thinners, and pigments to obtain appropriate consistency, colour, and drying properties.
Matches colours as necessary. Similarly mixes stains, epoxies, enamels, varnishes, shellacs, lacquers, plastic paints, bituminous paints, and other surface coating materials.
Prepares putty and other patching or filling materials.
Eligibility Criteria
The successful applicant must possess:
Cert 3 in Surface Preparation and coating application (or equivalent)
Experience within radiation, medicine or similar regulated industries (desirable)
Exposure to safety protocols, contamination controls (desirable)
Australian Citizenship
An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance
Additional Details
During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.
At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines. Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.
Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
