ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the opportunity

Join ASC’s Security team as a Personnel Vetting Advisor. This is a full-time, onsite role supporting compliance with the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) and related frameworks.

You’ll lead personnel vetting activities across the workforce. Your focus will be on verifying identity, assessing suitability, and managing risk. You’ll work with structured processes, clear standards, and sensitive information that requires sound judgement and consistency.

This role suits someone who is confident working independently and keeps work accurate under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end personnel vetting, including background checks and suitability assessments
  • Administer AusCheck and Naval Shipbuilding Sustainment Identification Card (NSSIC) processes
  • Confirm identity and eligibility in line with Australian standards
  • Conduct ongoing screening and risk assessments across the workforce
  • Work with stakeholders on personnel security matters and outcomes
  • Maintain compliance with DISP, privacy requirements, and internal policies
  • Handle personnel records with care and in line with legislation

About you

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in personnel vetting, security screening, or a similar field
  • Experience working with confidential personnel information and applying privacy principles
  • Strong understanding of compliance, governance, and risk frameworks
  • Clear communicator who can engage with a range of stakeholders
  • Able to prioritise, stay organised, and deliver during workload peaks
  • A steady, measured approach when working with sensitive information
  • Professional, respectful, and consistent in how you deal with people and information
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to spot gaps and follow through

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.

To check your eligibility please visit the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency website.
