An exciting career awaits you at ASC, Australia's submarine company - the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled trades individuals to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.  

Placements are available in April 2026 and will be between 12-18 months in duration. 

 

Responsibilities 

In the role of Pipefitter, your responsibilities are to provide pipefitting for naval vessels (nuclear/non-nuclear) and facilities, including potable water, steam, air, and temporary ventilation systems.

The responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • Interpret blueprints and templates to fabricate, assemble, and install piping systems, including precise cutting, bending, and shaping.
  • Install and modify piping systems (steam, water, air, hydraulic, lube oil) on ships and in workshops.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain existing piping and related equipment.
  • Perform inspections and tests (e.g., hydrostatic, operational) to certify system integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, quality standards, and schedules; complete required documentation and QA forms
     

Eligibility Criteria 

The successful applicant must possess:  

  • Australian Citizenship  
  • An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance  
  • Minimum Certificate 3 in Engineering (Mechanical or Fabrication)
  • Ability to relocate to Hawaii for minimum 12 months and then permanently relocate to Perth, WA.

 

Additional Details 

During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.  

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines. Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.  

Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
