About the Opportunity

We are seeking mid to senior level Electrical Designers to join the Platform Design team to provide technical expertise in support of the Collins Class Submarine (CCSM) key programs. The roles will see the successful applicants develop technical solutions that must be safe, practical, and fit for implementation. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, the role will contribute to engineering solutions and outcomes to support concept, detail design and implementation activities.

As a senior member of the team, you will apply your advanced electrical design expertise to deliver & review high-quality engineering outputs, mentor junior staff, and develop strong relationships and collaborate across disciplines to support the delivery of complex engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver electrical design tasks to agreed program commitments.
  • Ensure engineering outputs comply with ASC processes and industry standards.
  • Produce high-quality drawing outputs such as cable block diagrams, circuit diagrams, termination diagrams, cable installation schedules and switchboard arrangements.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, equipment lists and supporting engineering artefacts.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated engineering solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to small teams where required
  • Assist Project Management in planning and estimating, progress reporting, escalating blockages and ensuring alignment with project priorities and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with organisational engineering, quality, safety and security requirements
  • Seek better ways of working, that drive improvement in relation to program cost, schedule and quality.

 About you 

  • Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Experience as an Electrical Designer / Technical Officer supporting the delivery of engineering solutions
  • Electrical Trade experience/qualification is highly regarded. 
  • Experience in design and integration of power conversion, electrical distribution switchboards & control panels, cabling & connectors, lighting, motors, generators, sensors and control systems.
  • Strong ability to interpret electrical specifications, drawings and requirements
  • Experience in AutoCAD to produce 2D drawings is favourable (training provided)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a small team with proven track record to deliver complex engineering project deliverables (required for Senior Level)
  • Experience preparing technical reports and communicating technical information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Understanding of project management principles, including scope, schedule, cost, risk and opportunity management.
  • Knowledge of sustainment or engineering lifecycles, including requirements, verification, safety, integrated logistics support and configuration management.
  • You are a proactive and solutions-focused engineering professional who can work independently, manage competing priorities and build strong working relationships. You have excellent communication skills, strong technical judgement and a commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
