About the Opportunity

Reporting to the LOTE (Life of Type Extension) Platform Manager, the Senior Electrical Engineer will play a key role in ASC's LOTE program, helping to sustain and enhance Australia's frontline naval capabilities. This role will be responsible for consolidating and modernizing technical procurement specifications to support the procurement of new legacy electrical/electronic cabinets. This role involves engaging and collaborating with OEMs and subcontractors to manufacture the cabinets, resolving obsolescence issues, reconstituting design information, and developing or overseeing the development of acceptance test plans.

Responsibilities

  • Consolidate and modernise technical procurement specifications for legacy electrical/electronic cabinets.
  • Ensure specifications meet current industry standards and project requirements.
  • Identify and resolve obsolescence issues related to legacy components.
  • Source alternative components and materials as needed.
  • Reconstitute and update design information to reflect current requirements and standards.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive design documentation.
  • Develop or oversee the development of acceptance test plans for the new cabinets.
  • Ensure test plans are thorough and meet all quality and performance criteria.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar (Degree must satisfy membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia at MIEAust level)
  • Ability to work unsupervised and to work well within a multi-discipline team of engineers and technical personnel.
  • A demonstratable understanding of the design process and technical governance
  • Knowledge of sustaining engineering process in defence
  • Proven experience in technical procurement, preferably in the electrical/electronic manufacturing industry.
  • Strong problem-solving and lateral thinking skills.
  • Excellent data gathering and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals. Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
