About the Opportunity
As our new Specialist Test Engineer – HM&E, you will lead the development of ASC’s HM&E Test Engineering capability for nuclear-powered submarines. You’ll oversee complex testing and certification activities, ensuring operational safety during maintenance periods and integrating multiple stakeholders across Australian and international defence organisations. This is a unique opportunity to shape sovereign capability, work on advanced systems, and contribute to Australia’s AUKUS pathway at HMAS Stirling and the future Henderson Defence Precinct.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage ASC’s HM&E Test Engineering organisation.
  • Ensure reactor safety during HM&E maintenance and testing.
  • Plan and certify shipboard and pier-side HM&E test evolutions.
  • Supervise Lead Test Engineers and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Act as the main liaison with defence stakeholders and vendors.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex HM&E system issues.
  • Integrate returning engineers and build future sustainment capability.

About you 

  • 5+ years’ experience with Naval Ships HM&E systems operations.
  • Skilled in engineering, planning, and coordinating overhaul and repair of HM&E equipment.
  • Proven ability to provide engineering direction for installation and operation of HM&E systems.
  • Experienced in supervising teams within Naval HM&E maintenance environments.
  • Strong track record in implementing HM&E test evolutions.
  • Effective in managing complex stakeholders and working across organisations.
  • Adaptable to dynamic environments with experience in international defence engagement.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
