Trials Superintendent

About the Role

The Trials Superintendent acts as the central coordinator for all Collins Class Submarine (CCSM) related trials conducted in support of the submarine licensing program and provides support to Trials Group Submarines (TGSM) activities as required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the central point of contact and ASC coordinator for all CCSM trials.
  • Facilitating day‑to‑day activities within the weapons maintenance facility.
  • Maintaining and providing trials equipment and operating documentation.
  • Maintaining weapons launch vehicles and inclining weights to support weapon trial schedules.
  • Assisting other ASC departments with short‑notice testing requirements.
  • Acting as Trials Team Lead when deployed to support the TGSM trials program.
  • Providing trained and competent team members to support TGSM through CTOM‑SA and CTOM‑WA.
  • Ensuring trials documentation is current and approved to support submarine trial programs.
  • Ensuring certified equipment is available where and when required for planned trials.
  • Providing assistance and guidance to CTOM (SA/WA) as approved by the Chief Test Engineer.
  • Supporting ASC Duty Watch functions if required.

Reporting to the Chief Test Engineer, the Trials Superintendent is responsible for Safety and Certification Group activities and will engage with stakeholders across all levels of the Submarine Enterprise in both operational environments and during CCSM maintenance periods and dockings.

Essential Qualifications

  • Electrical Fitter (Electronics) or Electrician or Mechanical Fitter (Mechanics)
  • Diploma of Engineering (desirable)
  • Qualification in the use of Automotive Painting equipment (desirable)

Essential Skills and Experience

  • 5 years’ experience working with Collins Class Submarines
  • Practical experience in tests and evaluation and/or Set to Work of systems and equipment on ships or submarines
  • Extensive practical experience with ship or submarine systems and equipment, including operational capabilities and limitations
  • Preferred technical expertise in instrumentation
  • Understanding of technical design principles and practices
  • Competent computer skills and knowledge of Windows operating systems
  • Preferred CNC milling machine experience
  • Preferred additive manufacturing experience
  • Preferred experience in the Test and Trials environment

Security Requirements

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a Baseline/NV1/NV2 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
