About the Opportunity 

This role represents a rare opportunity to work on the pioneering SSN AUKUS Build Program, delivering an essential sovereign capability for Australia. The role will be responsible for overseeing welding processes, developing technical specifications, and ensuring the quality and compliance of welding activities within the core engineering capability team. This role involves working closely with internal and external stakeholders to support the design, procurement, and implementation of welding solutions for various engineering projects.  

Responsibilities 

• Develop and review technical specifications for welding processes and equipment. 
• Ensure compliance with relevant welding codes, standards, and best practices. 
• Conduct technical reviews and quality assessments of welding activities and equipment. 
• Participate in the procurement process by evaluating suppliers, conducting design reviews, and supporting factory and site acceptance testing. 
• Provide technical advice and guidance to the engineering team and other stakeholders. 
• Develop and implement welding test procedures for verification and validation of requirements. 
• Document findings and provide detailed reports on welding activities and assessments. 
• Support the development and maintenance of welding equipment and process documentation. 

Please note: Availability for collaboration calls outside normal working hours (UK timezone) is required. Periodic domestic and international travel may also be required on an ad hoc basis. 

About you  

• Qualifications in Welding/Materials Engineering (e.g. International Welding Engineer). 
• Eligible for member status with Institute of Engineers Australia (MIEAust). 
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in welding engineering. 
• Strong knowledge of welding processes, codes, standards, and best practices. 
• Knowledge of Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) processes related to weld quality. 
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. 

Eligibility 

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
