About the Opportunity

The Boat Superintendent is responsible for planning, scheduling, executing and managing all corrosion related work packages during submarine maintenance periods. This role ensures safe, efficient, and timely delivery of coating activities across Collins Class platforms, while providing technical leadership and subject matter expertise.  

 

Responsibilities

Planning & Scheduling:

  • Develop and manage work schedules to meet project milestones.  
  • Allocate resources across multiple platforms and coordinate ASC personnel and subcontractors.

Execution & Safety:

  • Oversee all related activities, ensuring compliance with safety standards and procedures.  
  • Monitor progress and resolve issues to maintain schedule adherence.  
  • Indirectly manages MTL and Leading Hand.

Technical Leadership:  

  • Act as subject matter expert for submarine coating systems and processes.  
  • Provide guidance to ASC trade groups and subcontractors on technical requirements.  

Stakeholder Engagement:  

  • Liaise with project teams and boat teams to drive daily activities and priorities.  
  • Ensure that SPOD and SPOWS are completed on time to support production schedules.  

              Mentorship & Development:  

  • Mentor Maintenance Team Leads (MTLs) and Leading Hands to improve work practices.  
  • Conduct trade skill assessments and support workforce capability development.  

 

About you 

  • Extensive experience in corrosion related operations within marine or defense environments.  
  • Strong knowledge of submarine systems and coating standards.  
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and subcontractors.  
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and quality assurance processes.  
  • Knowledge of Collins Class Submarine systems and CCSM business processes. 
  • Full understanding of high-risk work processes and safety compliance. 
  • Experience with scheduling and fostering practices that enhance adherence. 
  • Proficiency in ASC corporate databases and MS Office applications.

Essential Qualifications

  • Trade Certificate or relevant experience.
  • Confined Space Supervisor Course. 
  • NACE Level 2 (desirable). 
  • AICIP qualification (desirable). 
  • Certificate IV in Frontline Management and Leadership (optional but desired). 
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (optional but desired). 

 

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
