We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

We’re seeking a detail‑driven Certification Program Engineer to support ASC’s NAVSEANOTE 5000 Certification Programs. Reporting to the SUBSAFE Surveillance Manager, this role is responsible for coordinating certification evidence, managing documentation, and ensuring compliance with stringent defence and naval standards.

Operating at the intersection of engineering, quality, operations and governance, you will play a key role in progressing ASC toward formal certification by ensuring technical, procedural and assurance requirements are met. This role offers the opportunity to work within a high‑consequence environment, contributing directly to submarine safety, certification readiness and sovereign capability outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage certification evidence packages to support NAVSEANOTE 5000 requirements.
  • Compile, review and maintain accurate, traceable certification documentation and artefacts.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, operations and supply chain teams to gather required inputs.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders including NAVSEA, ASA and certification authorities.
  • Support audits, reviews and certification activities, including evidence collation and corrective action tracking.
  • Maintain risks, issues and change controls relating to certification activities.
  • Produce regular status reports, dashboards and executive updates on certification progress.
  • Facilitate technical reviews, workshops and working groups to support certification readiness.
  • Ensure strong configuration control, traceability and governance of certification documentation.
  • Identify and support process improvements to strengthen certification capability and maturity.

About you

  • Degree‑qualified engineer in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems or a related discipline.
  • Experience working in defence, maritime or highly regulated engineering environments.
  • Strong understanding of certification, assurance or class society processes, ideally within naval or complex systems contexts.
  • Experience in audits, investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to interpret engineering documentation, technical standards and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills with a high attention to detail and documentation integrity.
  • Experience coordinating evidence packs, certification reviews or assurance activities.
  • Confident engaging with internal and external stakeholders across multiple disciplines.
  • Able to operate effectively within structured governance and configuration management environments.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
