About the Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to join the pioneering SSN AUKUS Build Program as a Senior Nuclear Capability Engineer supporting the development and embedding of nuclear capability across Program. Working within the Nuclear IPT, you will help establish the frameworks, competencies, and assurance arrangements required for a compliant nuclear organisation, supporting readiness for licensed operations while ensuring safety, security, and regulatory expectations are met.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of nuclear safety and assurance arrangements across the programme
  • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of nuclear arrangements and configuration control
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholder establish and retain NSQEP
  • Support Nuclear Capability Development and workforce readiness for nuclear operations
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with regulatory expectations
  • Contribute to nuclear compliance, assurance activities, and documentation
  • Identify and manage nuclear-related risks and support continuous improvement initiatives

Please note: Availability for collaboration calls outside normal working hours (UK timezone) is required. Periodic domestic and international travel may also be required on an ad hoc basis.

 

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, or related Engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years’ experience in nuclear, defence, or highly regulated engineering environments.
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety principles and regulatory frameworks.
  • Understanding of competence frameworks or assurance schemes (e.g. SQEP/NSQEP)
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Experience in submarine or naval nuclear programs.
  • Exposure to safety case development and licensing submissions.
  • Experience with configuration management and technical assurance processes.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and technical communication skills

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
