About the Opportunity

This role represents a rare opportunity to work on the pioneering SSN AUKUS Build Program, delivering an essential sovereign capability for Australia. We are seeking an experienced Engineering and Project Management Capability Manager to play a pivotal role in building and deploying the right people, skills, and systems to deliver on ASC’s program work scopes. Acting as a deputy to the Head of Engineering and Project Management Capability, you will lead tactical operations, workforce planning, and execution of capability development strategies that align with ASC’s long-term objectives. This is a leadership role with significant impact on shaping ASC’s engineering and project management future.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the implementation of initiatives and plans that strengthen capability and address gaps across ASC programs in line with strategic objectives
  • Operate as deputy to the Head of Engineering and Project Management Capability, focusing on execution and tactical operations.
  • Collaborate with workforce planning, recruitment, and learning teams to build ASC’s technical and project management capabilities.
  • Provide leadership to a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring clear direction and performance targets.
  • Maintain a strategic perspective on business needs, risks, and opportunities to ensure ongoing success.
  • Align capability development initiatives with ASC’s corporate strategy and contractual deliverables.
  • Foster relationships with universities, education providers, and technical networks to support early career programs and talent pipelines.

 

About you 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline and project management certification (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven leadership experience in engineering project management or capability development on complex, multi-dimensional projects.
  • Strong proficiency in project management disciplines including scope, schedule, cost, and risk management.
  • Ability to build and lead multi-disciplinary teams, coaching and developing technical talent.
  • Strategic thinker with experience in resource prioritisation and trade-off decision-making.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding or defence sector practices, technologies, and regulatory environments is highly desirable.

 

Please note: Availability for collaboration calls outside normal working hours (UK timezone) on an adhoc basis may be required. Domestic and international travel may also be required on an ad hoc basis.


Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
