ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

The Head of Asset Management oversees ASC’s enterprise-wide asset management strategy, ensuring our strategic assets and facilities are managed to a standard consistent with  ISO 55001 requirements and providing the capability uplift to enable our Collins Class Submarine Advanced Integrated Asset Management System (AIAMS) program. This role is central to positioning ASC as a best‑practice asset management organisation, ensuring platform, facility, and infrastructure assets are managed in a way that optimises performance, mitigates risk, and supports scalable growth.

Reporting to the General Manager Strategic Capability, the Head of Asset Management champions the uplift of asset management capability across ASC’s facilities and submarine sustainment programs, ensuring the organisation is well‑prepared to meet its sovereign submarine sustainment responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Head of Asset Management may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Lead the development and enterprise-wide implementation of ASC’s Asset Management framework, ensuring alignment with ISO 55001 and the objectives of the Advanced Integrated Asset Management System (AIAMS) program.
  • Oversee the delivery of the AIAMS capability uplift, including bid support, system acceptance, and implementation across platforms, facilities, and infrastructure assets.
  • Navigate the integration of legacy and future asset systems within a complex defence environment, balancing operational needs with long‑term asset availability and readiness.
  • Drive cross-functional coordination across engineering, operations, infrastructure, and maintenance teams, while maintaining strong engagement with ANI, NSSG, ASA, and international partners.
  • Build and embed clear organisational standards, expectations, and values, fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and develop high‑performing teams through role clarity, outcome-focused leadership, and provision of tools and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Promote an environment that encourages innovation, values contribution, and supports informed decision-making while recognising operational trade-offs.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate asset-management-related risks, recommending and implementing improvements to processes, practices, and technologies across the Asset Management and broader Nuclear & Capability teams.

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Asset Management, or a related discipline.
  • Accreditation as or demonstrated ability to meet the competency requirements of the Asset Management Council’s Certified Practitioner in Asset Management (CPAM) certification or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in asset management within complex infrastructure or defence environments.
  • Proven track record in leading enterprise-wide asset management transformations.
  • Experience in implementing ISO 55001-aligned asset management systems.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Develop and empower high‑performing teams, fostering talent, strengthening team identity, and consistently delivering results through strategic planning, accountability, and a focus on organisational goals.
