About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, the Quality Planning Superintendent is accountable to provide a localised Quality Planning function ensuring accurate Inspection and Test Plans (ITP’s) allocation with supported Objective Quality Evidence (OQE), as well as work pack audits of tasks during execution or closeout to support Submarine Certification. The role will contribute to providing world-class quality services and support to the MCS programs, ASC and the broader Submarine Enterprise.

The Quality Planning Superintendent will undertake all elements of Quality Planning ensuring ongoing compliance and certification meet or exceed ASC requirements and relevant quality standards while supporting ASC to meet any relevant contractual deliverables. Working with the Quality Control Manager and the wider leadership team, the position is required to ensure that high quality, safe and efficient systems of work are in place to support a safely on time, right first time philosophy. The role is focused on ensuring ASC systems and processes are aligned across the MCS programs, the broader ASC Quality functions and programs and maintaining recognised best practice in relation to Quality Management Systems.

The Quality Planning Superintendent provides leadership to the local Quality Planners to ensure team members are provided with direction and attainable yet challenging performance targets.

 

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, accurate and efficient Quality products and services to ASC MCS and the wider Submarine Enterprise.  
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements in support of NATA/ARPANSA licencing, WHS and ASC’s Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity policy.
  • Ensure positive relationships are built and maintained to support MCS.
  • Ensure MCS Quality department relationships are built and maintained to support MCS.
  • Report on MCS Quality function performance and compliance in accordance with business and program requirements.
  • Communicate with team members to ensure the team have a clear understanding of the wider business strategy and goals, the departmental strategy and goals and how they assist in the achievement of these goals.

 

About you 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Tertiary qualifications in a technical trade and/or engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in operational leadership roles within Defence and/or heavy industry

 

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience and competency with quality/certification systems in a dockyard or heavy engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated experience and competency in the management and leadership of a cross-functional team across multiple projects and locations.
  • Have high level conceptual, analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to interpret (both ASC and customer) social, political and operating environments.
  • Problem solving at the highest level of complexity and importance that materially affect the value, viability and profitability of ASC.
  • Knowledge of submarine systems, equipment and their interrelationships.
  • Experience with CCSM maintenance requirements and quality regulations including ISO17025.
  • Eligible for Australian Department of Defence security clearance to at least NV1.
  • Commercial awareness and financial literacy.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills across all levels - written, verbal and interpersonal.
  • Proven ability to influence and lead change and business improvement.
  • Ability to set priorities and achieve deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to effectively coordinate and manage program outcomes.
  • Communicate with team members to ensure the team have a clear understanding of the wider business strategy and goals, the departmental strategy and goals and how they assist in the achievement of these goals.

 

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
