About the Opportunity 

This role represents a rare opportunity to work on the pioneering SSN AUKUS Build Program, delivering an essential sovereign capability for Australia. ASC is committed to continuously enhancing our organisational capabilities, particularly in supporting Submarine Build and Sustainment programs of work and our infrastructure to deliver these programs must remain relevant.

We are seeking several Infrastructure Engineers that will be responsible for defining the functional requirements for industrial infrastructure and manufacturing equipment, ensuring that they meet the specific needs of submarine manufacturing processes. They will provide detailed performance specifications, contribute to safety risk assessments, and ensure compliance with Australian Regulations and Standards.

These engineers will collaborate closely with various internal and external stakeholders, including end-users and subject matter experts to understand operational requirements and develop a set of infrastructure functional requirements to support the design of the Submarine Construction Yard at Osborne, SA.

Responsibilities 

  • Coordinating and participating in design development meetings, safety in design meetings, risk assessments, security working groups, ICT working groups and equipment integration workshops with internal and external stake holders to develop the design for the new submarine construction yard
  • Defining the infrastructure requirements to enable safe and modern submarine construction methodologies in a maritime defence environment
  • Reviewing preliminary and detail design documents, including schematics, layout drawings, functional descriptions and specifications, for compliance with requirements
  • Checking site installation compliance against requirements and specifications and identifying any non-compliances 

The scope of facilities to be delivered as part of the new submarine construction yard will require the infrastructure engineers to have experience in the following areas:

  • Large and medium scale heavy fabrication workshops including manufacturing equipment, industrial services, high-capacity building cranes and multiple supporting functions
  • Specialist machining workshop including large scale machining equipment, annex workshops and supporting functions
  • High volume pipe manufacturing workshop with stock storage systems, cutting, bending, welding, cleaning and NDT capability
  • Propulsion system assembly and test facility with complex services requirements and commissioning capability
  • Services engineering with broad experience across all disciplines including industrial services distribution and a strong focus on ICT and Defence Security

About you  

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical)
  • Experience in project engineering / management on complex infrastructure programs
  • Experience working in the industrial manufacturing industry on technical specifications and/or compliance
  • Specific experience within the Defence Shipbuilding Industry will be highly regarded
  • Experience project managing infrastructure/equipment design, procurement, manufacturing, installation and/or commissioning work
  • Experience working within a team of technical personnel in complex and unique industrial environments
  • Knowledge of systems engineering and ‘requirements management’ principles

Eligibility 

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
