ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

We’re seeking a skilled Network Engineer to join our IT Operations team, where you’ll play a critical role in managing and securing a complex enterprise network across multiple sites. Reporting to the IT Operations Manager and Network Lead Team, you’ll contribute to the development and execution of network and infrastructure strategy. This role offers the opportunity to work in a highly secure environment, supporting business-critical systems while driving continuous improvement and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the corporate network across multiple sites, ensuring high availability and performance
  • Design, implement, and optimise network infrastructure including routing, switching, and wireless technologies
  • Monitor and respond to network incidents, providing timely troubleshooting and resolution in a production environment
  • Assess and manage cybersecurity risks, implementing controls to safeguard against evolving threats
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and operations teams to support strategic initiatives and projects
  • Conduct capacity planning, preventative maintenance, and ongoing network performance improvements
  • Provide technical advice and reporting to stakeholders, including leadership teams, on network-related matters

About you

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in network engineering within enterprise environments, ideally with Cisco and Palo Alto technologies
  • Strong expertise in routing, switching, network security fundamentals, and monitoring tools
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Bachelor’s degree and Cisco certifications (CCNA/CCNP)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage incidents, prioritise competing demands, and maintain operational excellence
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working within security and compliance frameworks (e.g. PSPF, ISO, ISM, or NIST) and managing cyber risk
  • Self-motivated, highly organised, and a proactive problem-solver with a continuous improvement mindset

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a NV2 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
