About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership across complex defence engineering activities, supporting submarine platforms. In this role, you will take ownership of engineering decisions that must be safe, practical, and fit for in-service implementation, working closely with multidisciplinary teams across design, engineering, production and sustainment.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will lead small teams, act as project lead on defined scopes of work, and provide authoritative engineering advice across the organisation and to external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering leadership and technical authority within approved delegations (EDA / CAP up to SL3 / CAP3)
- Lead small, multi-discipline engineering tasks or larger single-discipline work packages, delivering to cost, schedule and quality
- Plan, organise and execute engineering work with minimal supervision across multiple parallel tasks
- Perform and review engineering analysis, calculations, modelling and subsystem/component design
- Prepare, review and approve engineering artefacts including specifications, drawings, reports and test procedures
- Apply Systems Engineering principles across the full design and sustainment lifecycle
- Provide technical direction to engineers and contribute to capability development within the team
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including customers, suppliers and regulatory authorities
- Support risk, opportunity and recovery planning for tasks behind schedule or over budget
- Ensure compliance with corporate management systems, safety, security, ITAR and Defence requirement
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 4 years as an Engineer
- Ideally you will come from a defence maritime industry background, if not candidates from civil, infrastructure or power grid industries are encouraged to apply
- Electrical Engineering degree meeting Engineers Australia requirements
- Demonstrated experience resolving technical problems in design, manufacturing, maintenance or construction environments
- Strong understanding of inter-discipline engineering dependencies
- Experience leading small engineering teams and ideally you will already be in a Lead Electrical Engineer role
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to senior stakeholders
- Working knowledge of submarine systems, design, operation or sustainment, or equivalent complex platforms
- Understanding of Defence engineering governance frameworks including SFARP, DSwMS, SUBSAFE and certification processes
- Experience applying systems engineering methodologies in practical project environments
- Demonstrated project management capability (scope, schedule, cost, risk and integration)
- High level of personal organisation, commercial awareness and ability to manage competing priorities
- Eligibility for Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or equivalent
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances.
