About the Opportunity

We are looking for experienced structural or mechanical engineers with strong production‑facing experience to join the SSN AUKUS Manufacturing Engineering team. We are recruiting up to Senior level, and this role provides the opportunity to directly contribute to building Australia’s sovereign submarine manufacturing capability.

As part of the SSN AUKUS program, you will work closely with engineering, production and planning teams to establish, optimise and implement manufacturing processes, systems and technologies for the Australian Shipbuilder. You will adapt best practices and lessons learned from international submarine programs and help deliver the engineering outcomes required for the successful build of SSN AUKUS submarines in Australia.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with program teams to develop and document manufacturing processes, workflows and systems.
  • Identify and assess tooling, technology and production methodology improvements and support their integration into Australian operations.
  • Support development and execution of production readiness plans aligned with program milestones.
  • Participate in production planning, quality assurance and process improvement activities.
  • Capture lessons learned, technical observations and improvement opportunities in a structured and accessible format.
  • Build productive relationships with engineering, production and planning teams to support long‑term capability development.
  • Contribute to training materials and onboarding resources for future manufacturing teams.

About you

  • Degree qualified in manufacturing engineering or a related structural or mechanical engineering discipline.
  • Experience in a high precision, production focused environment, ideally in regulated or complex manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of production planning, process optimisation and quality assurance.
  • Confident working across multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical challenges.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing software tools such as CAD or CAM, ERP systems or data analysis platforms is desirable.
  • Able to participate in meetings across time zones and undertake occasional interstate travel.
  • Able to obtain and maintain an NV1 Defence Security Clearance.

A degree of flexibility is required in working hours, to support engagements with colleagues in other time zones. This role may also require periodic or regular overseas travel.

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
