About the Opportunity

This highly skilled expert role is responsible for the technical development of NDT programs. It is customer focused and provides support to internal stakeholders with numerous NDT methods for Collins Class Submarines, Astute and Virginia Class Submarines. This includes reviewing the quality and consistency of work produced by NDT technicians and contractors, reviewing and development of NDT procedures and processes, liaise with engineering authorities regarding NDT methods and maintain NDT department capability and efficiencies.

 

Responsibilities

The position requires a high level of communication and time management skills interacting with both management and production in both SA & WA locations.

The NDT STO Level 3 will assist in the establishment and development of ASC competency framework for joint certification to ISO9712 industry and SNT-TC-1A Submarine specific certification. The development and implementation of SNT-TC-1A written practice for Submarine NDT specific applications and verification of competency (VoC) assessment against those methods.

The role includes direct mentoring of NDT technicians and trainees in skill development, working autonomously and the incumbent is responsible for the work undertaken.

The NDT STO level 3 must maintain independence during quality inspection activities including monitoring processes to ensure compliance, improve efficiency, effectiveness and quality of work. The level 3 will provide technical oversight, report signatory and review for procedural test restriction or deviation.

Participation as SME’s and technical review of ASC laboratory during internal / external Audit to meet ISO 17025 requirements. Participate in technical review of ASC NDT Contractors, Suppliers and their sub-contracted NDT suppliers via field Audit and assessments to ASC contract and ISO certification requirements.

Technical review and compliance SME for NDT applications during laboratory digitisation to a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Ensure the standard of ASC documentation meets ASC corporate structures, ISO17025 requirements and is considered best practice for tests that are non-NATA certified.

 

About you 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant Trade or tertiary certificate.
  • ISO9712 Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in one or more of the relevant NDT methods (Ultrasonic, Radiography, Eddy Current, Magnetic Particle or Dye Penetrant test methods).
  • ISO9712 Level 2 (or equivalent) qualifications in other NDT methods.
  • Relevant State EPA License to operate Ionising Radiation Apparatus, and license to handle Radioactive Substances (Desirable).

 


ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years’ experience working in a leadership / Level 3 NDT.
  • 10 years’ experience working in NDT.
  • Experience working in a Submarine or Defense industry environment is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in major engineering production projects and manufacturing environments.
  • Awareness of SNT-TC-1A Certification scheme.
  • Supervisory experience of NDT technicians and trainees.
  • Understanding of ISO 17025 NATA laboratory accreditation requirements.
  • Effectively communicate internally and externally including-: Production and engineering management on the capabilities of NDT, both written and verbally with NDT technicians and trainees and internal customers (production and engineering) on all NDT processes.
  • Ability to interface with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Flexibility in methods of approach to resolving problems.
  • Competent in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in the supervision and management of staff in support of maintenance projects.
  • Strong safety, quality and standards focus.
  • Occasional travel will be required as part of this role.

 

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
