ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

ASC is seeking a high calibre Operational Leader to step into the pivotal role of Operations Support Manager, supporting our SA and WA Operations teams. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex, heavy industrial environments and knows how to bring structure, clarity and performance uplift to large operational organisations.

You will be the driving force behind strategic workforce planning, operational performance metrics, and continuous improvement activities, ensuring our operational teams are set up to deliver consistently, safely and efficiently. Working alongside a highly engaged Senior Leadership Team, you will shape how ASC delivers its operational commitments today, and influence how we evolve for the future.

This is an opportunity to bring fresh thinking, challenge the status quo, and help build a modern, data‑led, high‑performing Operations function at the heart of Australia’s sovereign submarine capability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and embed Strategic Workforce Planning to align capability and resources with program needs.

  • Partner with senior leaders on Operations strategy, Game Plans and long‑term planning.

  • Oversee operational metrics, KPIs and performance frameworks.

  • Drive continuous improvement, Lean practices and transformation initiatives.

  • Manage operational risk registers, governance and compliance frameworks.

  • Influence and uplift cross‑functional teams to build a culture of accountability and performance.

  • Provide visible leadership, spending time in the field to support safe and consistent operational delivery.

About You

You are an experienced operational leader with a passion for improving how a business runs, not just for today’s outcomes, but for long‑term capability and operational excellence. You bring:

  • Extensive leadership experience in heavy industry, defence, mining, government or complex operational environments.

  • Strong strategic capability with a 3–5 year planning horizon.

  • Lean, CI or business improvement experience.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.

  • High commercial acumen and ability to interpret operational data.

  • A coaching‑oriented leadership style that builds capability and accountability.

  • If you are energised by operational leadership, transformation and building long‑term capability, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact.

Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Eligibility depends on your ability to obtain and maintain such clearance. Applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries may not be eligible. See AGSVA for details.

Benefits

  • Unique and challenging work with deeper purpose.

  • Flexible working options.

  • Up to 10 days additional leave annually.

  • Generous parental leave.

  • Subsidised childcare.

  • Health and wellbeing initiatives.

  • Professional development opportunities.

  • Supportive and diverse environment.

  • Discounts and offers from leading Australian brands.
