An exciting career awaits you at ASC, Australia's submarine company - the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled trades individuals to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.
Placements are available in June 2026 and will be between 24 - 30 months in duration.
Responsibilities
In the role of QA Inspection - Mechanical, your responsibilities are:
Examine and interpret technical documentation such as drawings, schematics, certificates, test reports, and manuals to verify conformance with applicable requirements.
Conduct detailed visual inspections to identify defects, deviations, or non‑conformities in materials and components.
Conduct audits and surveillance activities in workshops and work areas to assess adherence to quality standards and identify risks or non‑compliance.
Collaborate with trades, engineering teams, and supervisors to resolve discrepancies, ensure installation compliance, and support corrective and preventative actions.
Complete and maintain accurate quality records, inspection forms, discrepancy reports, and sign‑offs in accordance with required documentation standards.
Certify final work quality by signing off inspected materials, components, and installations, ensuring they meet required specifications and are safe for operational use.
Eligibility Criteria
The successful applicant must possess:
Certificate III or IV in Engineering in Mechanical trade or equivalent.
Previous experience in a similar Quality Control role.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
Australian Citizenship.
An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance.
Additional Details
During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.
At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines. Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.
Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
