About the Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Radiological Controls Specialist to join our Nuclear and Capability team in either SA or WA. The Radiological Controls Specialist will be an internal subject matter expert providing specialist advice on the safe handling, storage and management of radioactive materials, radioactive waste processing, radiation detection equipment and radiation protection requirements within ASC facilities and scope of operations. The role will support the development of ASC’s ionising radiation safety policies and safety management processes, ensuring alignment with regulatory obligations and program requirements. The position will contribute to the development of program specific radiological arrangements, supporting training to uplift ASC’s nuclear safety culture, and engage with internal and external stakeholders to support ASC’s current and emerging nuclear capability requirements. Limited domestic and international travel may be required.
Responsibilities
• Provide specialist advice on safe handling, storage and management of radioactive materials, radioactive waste and radiation detection equipment.
• Support the development and implementation of ASC’s ionising radiation safety policies, processes and program specific radiological control arrangements.
• Develop and deliver radiation safety training and nuclear awareness materials to uplift ASC’s safety culture.
• Interpret and apply regulatory requirements and standards, ensuring ASC maintains compliance with national and international nuclear and radiological frameworks.
• Engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to communicate program needs, risks and radiological expectations.
• Contribute to continuous improvement activities and capability development within the Nuclear and Capability function.
About You
• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant science discipline and 7-10 years of relevant technical or professional experience.
• Experience safely managing, handling and storing nuclear or radioactive materials, supported by technical knowledge of radiochemical or chemical analysis.
• Ability to clearly communicate radiological hazards and translate legislative and regulatory requirements into practical operational guidance.
• Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear and radiological laws, regulations, national standards and international best practices.
• Experience educating diverse audiences on ionising radiation and promoting safe handling and storage practices.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work collaboratively in dynamic, evolving program environments.
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
