A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Radiological Control, the Radiological Emergency Response Advisor ensures effective emergency preparedness and response by the Radiological Control (RadCon) workforce in support of SSN Sustainment at HMAS Stirling. This role coordinates with external partners—including the Australian Submarine Agency, Royal Australian Navy, and allied navies—to integrate RadCon into the multi-agency Nuclear Emergency Response Organisation (NERO).

Key responsibilities include aligning RadCon roles with NERO emergency functions, coordinating scenario-based drills, activating on-call personnel, and maintaining emergency response records in compliance with partner, regulatory, and legislative requirements. The Advisor also plays a senior role within NERO and contributes to ASC’s nuclear mindset and social licence development.

This role is dependent on adherence to international and national nuclear standards, legislation, licensing, and emergency response protocols.

This is a full-time, permanent position, based in Henderson, WA.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on and support the planning, maintenance, and execution of emergency response activities for the RadCon workforce.
  • Ensure RadCon roles are aligned and integrated with the Nuclear Emergency Response Organisation (NERO), in collaboration with external partners (e.g. ASA, RAN, US Navy, Royal Navy).
  • Map RadCon roles to NERO emergency functions and ensure personnel understand their responsibilities across various emergency scenarios.
  • Plan and coordinate emergency response drills for RadCon in line with partner and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the activation of on-call personnel during emergency situations and assume a senior role within RadCon’s NERO component.
  • Maintain ASC’s emergency response records in compliance with national legislation, international guidance, and partner expectations.
  • Ensure all activities align with relevant nuclear standards, legislation, licensing, and emergency preparedness protocols.
  • Support the development of ASC’s nuclear mindset and social licence through proactive engagement and leadership.
