About the Opportunity

As a Safety Engineer you will work as part of the Collins Class Submarine Life of Type Extension (LOTE) program.

The role involves conducting Hazard identification and analysis tasks, as well as integrating safety into the LOTE design. The Safety Engineer will work to ensure the delivery of a safe and sound design throughout the project lifecycle. Integral to this role will be your excellent communication skills showcasing your ability to interact with people at all levels of the business.

This role is a permanent full time opportunity, based from Osborne.

Responsibilities

  • Perform System Safety Engineering tasks of a technically challenging nature which demonstrate knowledge of System Safety Engineering fundamentals.
  • Prepare and review System Safety Engineering documentation including System Safety Program Plans, Hazard Analysis Reports, Safety Assessment Reports, Hazard Logs, Hazardous Material Registers and Safety Case Reports.
  • Support ASC in fulfilling its obligations under Australian WHS legislation.
  • Provide input to the ASC Safety Engineering capability by contributing to key initiatives.

About you 

  • Bachelor of Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in Defence industry with a good understanding of Systems Engineering fundamentals
  • Experience in System Safety Programs and conducting associated tasks and techniques
  • Experience with System Safety software tools is desirable e.g. DOORS, BowTie XP, Assurance and Safety Case Environment etc
  • Knowledge of Safety Standards, including MIL-STD-882E
  • Knowledge of Safety Cases and their associated arguments
  • Ability to set appropriate priorities and work standards, managing multiple parallel tasks with high personal organisation

Eligibility 

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance. 

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
