About the Opportunity

The Safety Engineer will provide system safety expertise as part of the Collins Class Submarine Life of Type Extension (LOTE) program. Reporting to the LOTE System Safety Engineering Manager, the individual will work collaboratively with other engineering domains including design engineers.

The role involves undertaking Hazard identification and analysis tasks, and integrating product safety into the design, by enabling platform design engineers to make design decisions that are safe, practical, and implementable. The Safety Engineer will work to ensure the delivery of a safe and sound design throughout the project lifecycle. Integral to this role will be your excellent communication skills showcasing your ability to interact with people at all levels of the business.

This role is a permanent full time opportunity, based from Osborne.

Responsibilities

  • Perform system safety engineering tasks of a technically challenging nature which demonstrate knowledge of system safety engineering fundamentals
  • Prepare and review system safety engineering documentation such as System Safety Program Plans, Hazard Analysis Reports, Safety Assessment Reports, Hazard Logs, Hazardous Material Registers and Safety Case Reports in accordance with program milestones
  • Perform system safety analysis tasks in accordance with Australian WHS legislation aligned to the program system safety standards applicable to the LOTE system safety program
  • Provide input to the broader Safety Engineering discipline, providing input to key initiatives that drive a system safety culture

About you 

  • Bachelor of Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in complex system safety programs
  • Experience in Defence industry with a good understanding of Systems Engineering fundamentals
  • Experience with System Safety programs and conducting associated tasks and techniques
  • Experience with system safety tools is desirable, DOORS, BowTie XP, Assurance and Safety Case Environment software etc.
  • Knowledge of Safety Standards, including US MIL-STD-882.
  • Knowledge of safety cases and their associated arguments
  • Ability to set appropriate priorities and work standards, managing multiple parallel tasks with high personal organisation.

Eligibility 

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.  

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
